Sabirabad city

Sabirabad area is rich in ancient and mediaeval settlements and monuments. As a result of archeological excavation, it is possible to belong the ancient settlements and necropolises in Surra, Javad, Abdulyan, Garatapa, Garagashli, Bulagli, Zangana and Galagayin villages to V-I, V-II B.C., B.C I and III centuries. Javad mediaeval settlement can be belonged to IX-XV centuries, however the materials found in Shahargah area prove that this strata belongs to XI-XII centuries. Mugan land called as Khaver Zamin and Sunny Land exposed to persecute of Arabians, turks, Persians and other foreign invaders, but defended all attacks of the enemies and became an impregnable fortress. Since that time, Khaver Zamin has been renamed to Galagayin. At present, the region has Galagayin village. The largest village of the region Javad has been a historical city and its name has been met since XVI century. Javad was the centre of Javad khanate in the middle of XVIII century. Javad was subordinated to Guba khanate, in 1768. Many Russian populations were moved to Javad after annexing of region czarism. The region was founded in 1931. Since 1959, the region has been called as Sabirabad in accordance to Azerbaijani great poet Mirza Aekber Sabir.
