31"Istiglal" monumentThe monument built in the honor of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan was opened on Istiglaliyyet Street on May 25, 2007. The monument is between the Institute of Manuscripts of the National Academy of Sciences and State Economic University of Azerbaijan. The old and new wordings (in Latin alphabet) of "Declaration of Independence" adopted in Tbilisi on May 28, 1918 have been engraved on this granite and white marble monument. Opening ceremony was also attended by President Ilham Aliyev.Azerbaijani Democratic Republic was established on May 28, 1918. On April 28, 1920, the Republic which survived 23 months collapsed as a result of invasion by the Soviet Russia. Every year, 28th of May is marked as the "Day of Republic ".
