The museum was founded in 1924. The building of the museum has been built in XIX century. There are about 30 thousand exhibits kept in the museum. Ganja State History and Ethnography museum is the richest in the region. Rare historical things are kept and exposed here. Many of them have been found during archaeological excavations that were carried out by Jacob Hummel in Goygol (former Khanlar) region territory. The exhibits in the exposition have been placed according to historical succession and subject. There are very interesting findings among exhibits of the museum related to Bronze Age.
