The sanctuary in Nardaran – According to local residents, a sanctuary was constructed in VIII century by Christian chronology. This sanctuary-complex is located in northern part of village Nardaran. In it there is a tomb of Mrs. Rahima, sister of Hazret Imam Rza. She is one of the descendants of the Prophet seeking protection in Azerbaijan during governance of Harun ar-Rashid and Mamun. According to Haji Adalat Alizada, inhabitant of the village, Mrs Rahima was the guest of local resident Said Jusif aga. She, together with her family found a refuge in this village, lived and was buried here. However later the sanctuary in which there was a tomb of Mrs Rahima got lost because of a natural event – with approaching of Caspian sea to the shore in XIII-XIV centuries northern part of the village had been abandoned, and the tomb had been covered by sand brought by north winds. However at the beginning of the century with the initiative of the local resident Sheikh Junis excavations were executed, and the pilgrimage place was restored. After independence of Azerbaijan inhabitants of Nardaran under the direction of Haji Hafiz again realized restoration works and the present complex was delivered to believers. This new building was started in 1994 on birthday of the Prophet. Civil works were carried out by local masters. The mosque consists of two floors; the first has been kept as a pilgrimage place. The internal area of the mosque is about 30х17 meters, height – 26 meters. Height of each of the 4 minarets of the mosque is 41 meters. Diameter of a dome is 17 meters, height – 16 meters. Main praying room of the mosque is covered by two domes. Now in Nardaran sanctuary, made of two parts, construction of Huseyniya building is going on. We would like to note that 1500 believers can visit a pilgrimage place simultaneously.
